Svanevik was from 2014 to 2017 central in the restructuring and development of companies controlled by J. Fredriksen owned Seatankers Ltd, including Seadrill, North Atlantic Drilling, Sevan Drilling, Archer (Chairman), Marine Harvest, Golden Ocean, Frontline and Deep Sea Supply. Previously he successfully managed the Energy Growth fund, netting a gain of 1 billion for the equity investors.


Svanevik was CEO of the more than hundred years old industrial investment company Arendals Fossekompani from 2019 to 2022, and generated a shareholder return of 300%, including dividend payments of about 3.0 billion NOK, both in cash and in kind payment of shares. As CEO, Svanevik drove a substantial shift in the investment portfolio, with several divestitures, strategic acquisitions and stock exchange listings. While generating exceptional shareholder returns, AFK also reduced its CO2 emissions with above 98%, and completed a full green transition in all its portfolio companies.

Svanevik was a director and COO at Seatankers Management, the John Fredriksen advisory firm managing companies owned by Hemen and Geveran, including Seadrill, Marine Harvest, Norwegian Property, Archer, Frontline, Ship Finance, Sevan Drilling, North Atlantic Drilling and Golden Ocean. A number of these portfolio companies were restructured and recapitalized successfully in the period 2014 to 2017.

He was Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Kværner ASA during the demanding break up of the group, which resulted in three leading listed companies, including Aker ASA, Aker Solutions and Aker Yards. Later he was Partner and Head of M&A at Aker ASA, responsible for the founding, capitalization and listing of several companies, as well as the on-going ownership management. Svanevik has previously many years of corporate finance and strategy consulting experience from London and Oslo, and financial management experience from the oil service company Schlumberger, mainly at the head office in Paris.

Svanevik established Oavik Capital AS in 2008, and was through its management of the Energy Growth fund responsible for significant ownership positions in the Nasdaq listed satellite based communication company Rignet (ticker:rnet), and the flow simulator SPT Group in Oslo, which was sold to Schlumberger.

Oavik also managed large stakes in the decommissioning company NCA AS and the offshore mooring company IOS AS, and these companies were also successfully sold, respectively to Oceaneering and Acteon.

Oavik also has specialist advisory engagements with key clients, and owns C.W. Downer & Co in Norway, the global middle market M&A boutique.

Previously, Svanevik has among others, been the chairman of Volue (ticker: volue.ol), Archer (ticker: arch.ol) ENRX (EFD Induction), North Atlantic Drilling (NYSE), and the shipbuilder Kleven. He has also been a board member of the listed companies Seadrill Ltd (NYSE and OSE), the world leading salmon company Mowi (NYSE and OSE), the ferry operator Nordic Jet Line, the Houston based satellite provider Rignet Ltd (Nasdaq), American Shipping Company ASA (OSE), the Rumanian listed company IMGB, the Chinese hydropower equipment company Hangfa, the Los Angeles based international satellite launching partnership, Sea Launch Ltd, the decommissioning business NCA, the government owned road maintenance company Mesta, and the investment company Bjørgvin AS.

Svanevik has an AMP from Harvard Business School, a MBA and MIM from Thunderbird, and a Master of Business and Economics from Norwegian School of Management (BI).
